VISIT TO KAGOSHIMA without lunch
Kagoshima is Kyushu's southernmost, major city and the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture. The city is often compared with its Italian sister city Naples due to a similarly mild climate, palm tree lined streets, passionate inhabitants and Sakurajima, Kagoshima's Vesuvius. Our tour will begin with the visit of the Senganen Japanese garden, also called the Iso-Tei-en Garden. From there you can get a distant view of Sakurajima beyond Kagoshima Bay, and also enjoy the beautiful sight . In the garden complex you can also shop for a while. Then you will catch the ferry and have a chance to explore the Sakurajima area, dominated by the volcano, one of the majestic symbols of the city. Sakurajima is so active that eruptions of smoke and ash are almost as common as rain. The last major eruption was in 1914 (when the island became a peninsula from the large amount of lava that overflowed), followed by others in1915, 1946, 1955 and 1960. Interestingly Sakurajima itself was also an island until 1914, when lava flows from a large eruption that year spread and hardened, connecting the island to Osumi Peninsula. The ferry will return you to the port of Kagoshima before some free time for shopping.
